400 Sassanian Coins Found During Training with eXp 6000

Depth: 1.7 m (5.6 ft)
Region: Iran
Time of origin: Sasanian Empire (224 – 651 AD)

A Remarkable Discovery During Training

Recently, a fascinating discovery brought the past to light: 400 ancient coins were discovered from a depth of 1.7 m (5.5 ft) using an OKM eXp 6000 Professional Plus. The find occurred not during an expedition, but in the context of a training session — demonstrating how even routine use of advanced technology can lead to unexpected and valuable results. The person operating the scanner is highly experienced in the field of geophysics and technology, which likely contributed to the successful identification and careful recovery of the coin hoard.

The Legacy of the Sassanian Empire

The Sassanian Empire ruled much of the Middle East and Central Asia from 224 to 651 AD. It was the last great empire of pre-Islamic Persia and was known for its strong central government, advanced architecture, and vibrant culture. Coinage was a large part of its economy - especially silver coins called drachms, which often featured portraits of kings on one side and religious symbols on the other. These coins circulated widely, not only within the empire but also in neighboring regions, making them an important part of international trade. Discoveries like these help us reconnect with these distant eras and gain insight into the trade, politics, and cultural life of ancient civilizations.

Detection Capabilities of the eXp 6000

This discovery highlights what can be achieved when technical expertise meets the right tools. The coins were located using the OKM eXp 6000 Professional Plus, a device developed for deep ground scanning that helps users detect buried objects at depths of up to 25 m (82 ft), making it well-suited for locating finds that lie far below the surface.

One of the key features in this case was the system's ability to visualize the underground area in 3D. This not only helped confirm the presence of the detected anomaly, but also made it possible to determine both the location and depth of the object prior to excavation. With this information, the user was able to accurately locate and efficiently recover the coin hoard.

From Scan to Discovery: Uncovering a Hidden Tunnel

During a separate scan with the OKM eXp 6000 Professional Plus, the treasure hunter scanned an area that showed an unusual underground structure in the scan. He later analyzed the scan results in the Visualizer 3D Studio software, where a clear void appeared in the visualized scan data. Guided by this information, he returned to the scan field and discovered the entrance to a tunnel, which was cleverly hidden behind a large rock. The discovery confirmed the accuracy of the scan and demonstrated the detector's ability to detect not only ferromagnetic targets, but also hidden voids and structural features underground.
