Forrest Fenn Treasure

December 27, 2021

In 2010, millionaire art dealer and author Forrest Fenn decided to hide a treasure chest. Before burying the bronze box, he filled it with gold pieces, rare coins, precious relics, expensive jewelry, and gemstones with a total estimated value of $1 million to $3 million.

He then hid this box somewhere in the Rocky Mountains without leaving specific directions to where it can be found. The only clues he was willing to give were hidden in a poem he wrote himself:

As I have gone alone in there
And with my treasures bold,
I can keep my secret where,
And hint of riches new and old.

Begin it where warm waters halt
And take it in the canyon down,
Not far, but too far to walk.
Put in below the home of Brown.

From there it’s no place for the meek,
The end is drawing ever nigh;
There’ll be no paddle up your creek,
Just heavy loads and water high.

If you’ve been wise and found the blaze,
Look quickly down, your quest to cease,
But tarry scant with marvel gaze,
Just take the chest and go in peace.

So why is it that I must go
And leave my trove for all to seek?
The answer I already know
I’ve done it tired, and now I’m weak.

So hear me all and listen good,
Your effort will be worth the cold.
If you are brave and in the wood
I give you title to the gold.

From then on, many adventurers and treasure hunters followed the hints in search of the secret hiding place without being able to locate the treasure chest. At least six people died in the search for Forrest Fenn's buried treasure.

For 10 years, the box remained hidden until it was finally discovered by a treasure hunter. On June 6, 2020, Forrest Fenn confirmed that his treasure had been found in Wyoming by a student from Michigan. The treasure hunter had sent him a photo of the box to prove the actual find.
